Zucchini Chips

I have been on a (mostly) low carb diet for the past 2.5 weeks. I have been staying away from breads, potatoes, etc. but still eating fruit and trail mix for snacks.

I decided to make Zucchini Chips because I was craving those thin pretzel chips to eat with hummus. I figured they can make chips out of bananas and potatoes, so why not zucchini?

Zucchini Chips

1/2 large zucchini
Teaspoon or so of olive oil
Dash of any spices or herbs you want to use (I used garlic powder, salt and pepper)

Pre-heat your oven to 250°F

Slice the zucchini thinly with a slicer or knife (thickness of quarter) and toss them in spices and olive oil

Line a cooking sheet with parchment paper (absorbs extra oil) and line up your slices

Bake for 30 mins, check them, flip them over if need be. Bake for another 15-30 minutes. Use your best judgement on the cook time. They are done when they are kind of shriveled up and crispy.

Kelsey likes to think shes helping.

Mine were not cooked all the way after 30 minutes so I turned the heat up to 300°F and baked for another 15 minutes.
(Lost a few along the way- made about 20)

Let them cool for a few minutes before you eat them, but eat within an hour so they do not get soggy.

With hummus!

I plan on seasoning with some buffalo spices next time to dip in ranch!

Easy As Pie

The Endless Summer of Quilting has begun!!!

My first completed quilt top of summer 2013 is Easy As Pie from Moda Bake Shop!

Miss Amanda and I decided to make twin pattern quilts out of this pattern with fabrics/colors that are a little out of our normal quilting comfort zone.

The Moda recipe calls for a layer cake, but we figured out the yardage would be 6 fabrics at 3/4 yard of each.

Here are the fabrics that I chose for the blocks:
1. Sew Stitchy Needle (Moda)
2. Zig Zag Pink (Free Spirit)
3. Commute Ride Coral (Birch Fabrics)
4. Field Day Green (Blend Fabrics)
5.Chevron Small Aqua Zig Zag Stripe (Riley Blake Fabrics)
6. Palm Fan Sky (Kaffe Fassett)

Here are the fabrics for the border, binding and backing:

7. Birds and the Bees Sunset Lazy Stripe  (Tula Pink for Free Spirit)- Binding
8. Sundials in Glow (Free Spirit)
9. Birds and the Bees Sunset Meteor Shower (Tula Pink for Free Spirit)- Backing

Fabrics 1,2,4,5,6 are from Sew Smart Fabrics and 3,7,8,9 are from Stitchwell Fabric. These two shops are totally adorable and you should check them out if you are ever in the vicinity of Philadelphia!

Now onto the quilt!!

Miss Amanda cutting her blue themed quilt!!

Sewing my blocks together

 Design #1
 Design #2
Design #3- WINNER

The blue around the edges is just a flannel sheet that I have tacked to the wall. Instead of buying a design board for my quilting, I just use a flannel sheet since the fabric pieces stick right to it. This makes it super easy to rearrange them until you find the desired pattern for your quilt!

 Here she is pre-border!
 Completed Quilt Top!
Close up of blocks and border fabric

The pictures did not come out great due to the terrible lighting in my room. In person it is more coral colored than orange but you get the gist.

I will post updates for when Miss Amanda finishes her quilt top as well as when my quilt is back from the longarm and all put together!

Next up: Beach themed quilt!

MEGADESK

My two week long project is finally complete!!  Drumroll please... MEGADESK!

I have decided to take my crafty quilting to the next level with a brand new desk!

My Dad was awesome enough to build this for me over the past two weeks in preparation for my quiltcapades this summer.

We adapted my desk from these  Custom Craft Desk instructions.

My Dad and I checked out our Habitat for Humanity's ReStore to find our supplies. There was a lot of great stuff but we struck out for this project.

Here is Megadesk's journey to completion!
